Rock solid crime piece about the aftermath of other crime films. Very obviously inspired by a love of Michael Mann’s THIEF (director Julia Hart said as much, she totally gets it). Really liked Fast Color too. Hope she sticks around. Part of me wonders how much better her work would look if she were able to shoot on film. The lighting feels more attuned to that kind of exposure, here it doesn’t *quite* nail the grit and night work. Which is unfortunate because with time and budget, I think digital can make night even more visually dynamic than film.
Just rambling at this point but I liked it. Loved Brosnahan. When does MRS. MAISEL come back? That show rules. It’s the last show along with GRACE & FRANKIE that I watch regularly on a season to season basis. I am an 84 year old white woman.
