"The earth is sour, our bones are poisoned, we have become half-life."
In preparation for Furiosa, what better way to celebrate George's success than to go through the whole franchise? And where else can you start but Fury Road?
I showed my mother this film not too long ago, and she said it was on par with Eraserhead (she hated that, too). This was a little disappointing considering the film's huge success and how much she enjoys dystopian fantastical worlds.
I'm sure most people know about the insanity of this movie's production: Scoping out multiple locations, the Australian dollar collapsing after September 11th, heavy storms that flooded set areas, and the greenery that followed, which was detrimental considering the film takes place entirely in the desert. amazingly enough It's all practical effects, and I believe that's why I'm a little nervous about Furiosa. I've heard great and terrible things, and the word CGI is frequently used; fingers crossed.
Not everyone likes this film, but it can't be ignored if you take the time to appreciate the team's work. Georges's creativity is almost limitless in that he created the wasteland and has arrested people with images unparalleled by any other visionary for decades. Every crash is real, and all cars and stunts are real. CGI removes safety cables and helps with backgrounds, but that's it; it's surreal. It takes you out of the comic story it practically is and into something much more shaky and intense. Almost everywhere you look, there's something that can catch your eye. So many shots show the team's innovation in costumes, cars, armor, anything.
Oscar-winning and deserving of being one of the most successful action movies of the century, I would definitely enjoy this one with a beer and a doink.
