A celebratory film that just takes pleasure in its own stupidity (and equally so, smarts) with a fun topsy-turvy switch-a-roo of roles. The monsters become the good guys, and the good guys become the monsters, and the monsters have a fun (and again, hilariously fucked up and exceptionally horrific) backstory and the good guys have a simple goal.
On an even simpler level, I'm sure this film uses every type of comedy it can and to good effect as well; it would have helped had I been more in the mood, or had I watched this with a group of friends but it's a cute little horror/comedy which just so happens to be carefully put together.
Another note is that it heavily leads towards the comedy side of the spectrum. In other news, Alan Tudyk is glorious.
