The film works in a way that transcends its own narrative; after 30 years and significant shifts in the cinematic landscape, the lack of strong demand for a sequel makes even a direct remake feel somewhat alien and detached from the original.
Overall, it’s a decent and enjoyable experience as Tim Burton revisits his iconic style. The campiness and practical effects still resonate, making this legacy sequel a fun trip down memory lane. Catherine O’Hara and Michael Keaton are the standout performers, consistently bringing charm and joy to their scenes.
However, the script falls short with its weak and convoluted plotting. It juggles too many storylines, none of which reach a satisfying conclusion. Still, it’s nice to return to the world Burton created, even if the execution leaves something to be desired.
