I REALLY wanted to love this, as it includes a lot of my favorite things. But outside of one sequence where Amelia has to climb up the balloon in freezing conditions (one of the best, most thrilling sequences of the year), I mostly just liked it, and often didn't think it was very good at all.
While I appreciate the attempt at non-linear storytelling, I think that's what ultimately dooms the film - put everything in chronological order, build the relationship between Amelia and James before they get into the balloon, and then we have clearer stakes and more investment in the characters for those thrilling balloon sequences.
Cinematography, editing, design, score, all FANTASTIC. Felicity Jones is also great, although Eddie Redmayne is a big ol' nothing.
