I don’t even know how to rate this. It’s funny, except when the bits drag on for too long. It’s poignant, but that doesn’t always sit well next to the comedy. The makeup is incredibly believable, except when it looks like a costume. The performances are great, except when it feels like they’re just theater kids playing dress-up.
I guess I just wish they pushed the thematic bits as far as they pushed the scatological humor. There’s SO MUCH going on here, especially in the last act, but in the end it doesn’t feel like the best version of itself, even though I love how singular it is. I’ve never seen anything else like it.
