I had fun! But by the big climax it felt like the movie was trying to force the fun a bit too much. No one else is even trying to make movies with a sensibility this floridly macabre, let alone succeeding this well, even if it’s neither as unique nor as consistently clever and engaging as the original. Glad for the reminder of what Tim Burton can do at his best, but this isn’t really anywhere near his best.
