would have been a 5/5 but they didn’t both make it. halfway through i was like, if they don’t make it that’s going to make me soo annoyed so i walked outta there annoyed but overall mostly satisfied.
wish the dollhouse/puzzle box element that was emphasized in the posters more developed, and it feels a bit like dare i say the burger king of cinema, easy fast and cheap but still delicious.
if i’d seen this in high school i’d be reading fanfic NO DOUBT. he did not need to put them through saw trap monty hall problem he merely needed to show them the L word.
i love this autistic old queen hugh grant. he is THEE moment in this one. he’s literally what trying to talk to someone about your special interest is like. can we talk about how i recognized “the air that i breathe” by the hollies but actually did not recognize “creep” by radiohead. i feel like that says something.
i think overall a little simple and a little too script-forward. but solid performances, and some fun camera movement, framing, shots. loved the blueberry pie reveal.
like the menu but more up my alley—a little too twee in points, genuinely funny in others, overall resolution a little too simplistic and not 100% satisfying.
i think this one is gonna be one of those ones like a less good ex machina that i’ll kind of always be in the mood for. like hugh grant playing a villain? every time he does his characteristic grimace i love it more and more.
VERY A24, for better or worse. made me miss how good the OA is—Hugh Grant WANTSSS what jason Isaacs has.
trailers beforehand were pretty rough ngl. i will NOT be seeing a gerard butler movie.
