This review is mostly about the sub vs dub, not the film itself.
This was the first time watching an anime (movie) where I switched to the Sub.
I always watch dubs because I prefer to not read subtitles, plus I'm used to dubs, growing up in a non-English speaking country. (I switched to watching all movies in English a few years ago)
But this film might've changed my mind on that, or at least rethink watching everything dubbed.
I've started watching it in English as usual, but Jiji's voice didn't match at all imo. So about 10 minutes in I started comparing it to the original.
Jiji's original voice actress Rei Sakuma felt right, but I also realized that the Sub and Dub differ a lot from each other.
I decided to restart the movie in Japanese. The English dub not only adds a lot of unnecessary "ad lib" for Jiji, which I found very annoying, it almost felt like a parody to me.
The dialogs are changed quite a bit sometimes, it won't change the story but the feeling of some scenes, like her leaving at the beginning of the movie.
The other witch she meets is a lot more arrogant in the Dub, and in another scene it changes the whole interaction from Kiki being allowed to take something vs her pretty much stealing it.
With all that out of the way, I had a great time watching it, even if I had to read some subtitles.
I really don't know what it was I enjoyed so much, it wasn't nearly as intense and powerful as my current Ghibli favourite, Nausicaä but I just thoroughly enjoyed it.
Maybe it's all because of Jiji =(ꏿ‸ꏿ)=

If you're planning on watching the dub, compare the first 10 minute and then decide on dub vs sub
