I see why people hate this movie. It feels like an entirely different movie than Kills or 2018. This is not a Halloween movie focused on Myers or even Strode. However, I think that it certainly could stand well on its own in terms of being a refresh button to analyze the cycle of myths, violence and what moving on from trauma looks like for different people. Other than characters returning, some thin connection pieces about Laurie's history and Haddonfield, this feels like an entire different setting than Halloween 2018 or Kills. The character Cory is the backbone of this movie that determines if you will like this movie or hate it. The climax is cheesy but meaningful and it has some memorable character moments but never really feels like it tries to capture any Halloween vibes.
John Carpenters music makes a big improvement on the overall score cause when it finally comes in, it absolutely slaps. Will definitely miss Laurie Strode though. Visiting the Cherry Blossoms sound nice.
