Looks like my Letterboxd account is now a year old! I started this thing back when the only animated films I’d seen in the years preceding it were Pixar. Since then, though, I’ve broadened my horizons a bit within the medium. Almost Disney’s entire catalog, about half of Dreamwork’s, and some more miscellaneous films like Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs or Marcel the Shell with Shoes On. I also consumed my first pieces of anime media ever outside of the Pokemon series when I was, like, 10, being A Silent Voice and Mirai. And while I didn’t particularly love either one, I can definitely see the potential in this subdivision of animated media to blow me away like the best Pixar movies can. Which brings me to my other topic: what’s next?
Mainly, what I want out of this year with film is to check out some animated films I’ve been wanting to see, but just haven’t yet. The Nightmare Before Christmas, the Spiderverse films, How to Train Your Dragon 3, and maybe even a Ghibli watchthough at some point??? Plus, there are other films outside of animation that I want to either watch or rewatch, that’s I’m hoping to get to this year.
Overall, I mainly writing this for myself rather than for anyone else on the site, just to have an idea of how far I’ve come with this relatively new interest of mine. But, if you’re one of the 74 people who follow me, or even if you’ve interacted with my account even a single time, thank you for that! It’s nice to see so many other opinions from other film and animation fans, and I’m definitely going to be sticking with this site for years to come.
