Let me start off this review by saying... I don't like musicals, I never have. I say this because La La Land might be the best musical I have ever seen.
First off, there was not a single song I didn't like or thought slowed down the story. They were all wonderful. The two main performances were some of the best of the year. The cinematography is absolutley astonishing at points, with numerous uses of some insane long takes. It also looks beautiful and has a very old school aesthetic, but in a modern setting. It also took the story in many directions I didn't expect it to take, and they were all done perfectly. La La Land is an absolute masterpiece, and I mean it with the utmost enthusiasm. Hopefully it gets a wider release soon so you can see it for yourselves. Honestly though, the hype is unbelievably real.
