This movie could have been great, but it constantly works against itself. For one, the animation is extremely disorienting at times. I've seen several shaky-cam films and the animation (which one would expect to be neat and clean) is often times more nausea-inducing than films like Blair Witch. Another major criticism is the inclusion of the character Spider-Ham. Seriously???? This film, while not without its funny moments, was setting itself up like a real superhero film. The stakes were high, the action was pretty great, and the villains were compelling. Then we take a detour and meet three different versions of Spider-Man from alternate realities that are purely included for comedic effect. They do nothing to further the story at all. And worst of all, one of them is a pig in a spider-man costume voiced by John Mulaney. Now, I'm a fan of his comedy, but this film was doing a pretty good job of playing it straight (with obvious moments of comedic relief) until this introduction. Now, I know I'm a grown ass man complaining about a children's movie. If you watch this with your kids, they'll probably love it.
