It saddens me that this film has only been my Christmas must watch for roughly a decade now and not longer. Being one of my late father's very favorite films I made it a point to watch it for several years until at this point not only is it one of my favorite films, it might legitimately be my pick for the greatest film ever made, in any sense of objectivity that you can assign to a subjective, artistic medium like film. Instead of rambling on as usual every year about how much joy this film fills me with and how it reinvigorates my hope for humanity (a badly needed sentiment in this now Trump-led US) I'm just going to plainly state, once again, that this is the type of film that defines and enforces the artistic importance of film itself. It's the type of film that I would imagine I'd cry my eyes out to as an old man on his death bed.
