Trap is the newest film from the mind of Sixth Sense and Signs director M. Night Shyamalan so let’s talk about it if it’s worth it.
M Night for the last couple of years has been hit and miss with delivering his comeback in Split and Knock at The Cabin but delivers miss opportunity in Old and Glass so I’m either hesitant or excited for Shyamalan because he is a nice guy and has a huge passion in films.
This film I really think has multiple layers and a lot to process to but I would say this is a Shyamalan win.
Described as Silence of The Lambs set in a Taylor Swift concert with a huge pop singer who manages to be the next Taylor Swift. Josh Hartnett delivers one of his most challenging and best roles since there is a lot to his character than you think.
The film is marketed as a film set in a concert and those concert sequences sure feels like a concert itself. There is a lot of scenes not shown in trailers that is basically an hour of twist and turns that I was wondering that did Shyamalan just entered into his classic days of directing because that 1 hour is bold and risky and will leave a little bit divisive for some.
Now that I leave out the positives I’ll leave my negative right away and I feel that the film would’ve been a tad better if it had some more rewriting and felt the pacing went way too long especially the third act which drags in the last 30 minutes into the movie.
Trap may be Shyamalan best efforts since Split but I really think that movie is a bit better but I can finally say that Shyamalan is finally getting close to his peak years but do what you do Shyamalan because you are in a right track for success.
Currently in theaters now but full release on August 2nd!
