After premiering at some film festivals since The Cannes Film Festival, Emilia Perez stars Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofia Gascon, and Selena Gomez and it’s about a Latina Lawyer signs a contract that takes custody of Emilia Perez a Trans crime lord to take custody of her past wife and kids.
This film’s biggest strength are the performances that are very strong. Karla Sofia Gascon is a scene stealer and gave a powerhouse performance that makes her locked in for some awards. As well will happen for Zoe Saldana who gives a different performance than being blue and green and she has layers of her character that gives one of my favorite performances from her and Selena Gomez is a good addition to the cast.
I however find this movie to be a little mid. I thought as one of the best movies of the year is a little bit of a stretch because I find the script to be a bit generic and that I’ve seen this before and some of the musical sequences can be a bit off but the musical numbers is decent but find some scenes to be a bit cringe.
Emilia Perez is this years Elvis 2022 with some mixed positive reactions. I absolutely think if it wasn’t for the strong performances and some sparkly direction by Jacques Audiard delivered some imaginative sequences the script itself is flawed at times but the movie is fine.
