Longlegs is a haunting portrayal of manipulation and inevitability. It explores the lengths of what we do for our loved ones. Maika Monroe, as Lee Harker, gave such a harrowing performance given the limited nature of the script. From her mannerisms to her subtle facial expressions, she is absolutely flawless. Nic Cage, as Longlegs, is basically Nic Cage +2 attributes. An excellent casting decision truly that elevated this film. One of the best things about Perkins as a filmmaker is that his cinematography will always look gorgeous but it juxtaposes the horrifying and macabre nature of what we are looking at. Perkins also made sure that not every single shot was wasted. Those slow-fucking zooms and track shots matched with void spaces in the background are genius. It gives the viewers so much discomfort that we don't know if we want to look away or look even closer.

Longlegs is, by no means, a perfect film. The ending could definitely make or break the script. It is up to the viewer to make that decision, but one of the things that makes Perkins special as a director is that, given such a simple screenplay (and yes, I understand he wrote this), his direction can turn even the worst ones into gold. So just imagine if this guy is handed a perfect horror screenplay; he could probably put the genre back on the fucking map.

In conclusion, Longlegs may not work for everybody, but it sure is a damn good film and does compensate for all the garbage movies we've been getting this year.
