Light on story. The characters were kinda boring. But that action is just spectacular! There’s not much else to praise here except maybe the visuals and the decent soundtrack. But I think the visuals were marred a bit by the inconsistent looking CGI that almost makes some shots look amateur at times.
It’s too bad that my expectations were set so high. I kept hearing that “the scene where Furiosa screams” was such an iconic moment in cinema. But I was kinda eh about it. I was never attached to their goal of getting to “The Green Place” or to Furiosa as a character either.
What Fury Road does capitalize in is mayhem. Glorious mayhem. With the kamikaze War Boys, gruesome deaths, and flying metal. Many of the action chase scenes were pretty tense and sported some dynamic action. I also like the simple yet compelling lore of this post-apocalyptic world.
Solid overall. I’m glad I finally got around to watching it, but I guess I expected a bit more. Sadly it seems like a lot of the films I’ve been watching lately fit into that category. Maybe my thoughts will change on it after some time
