longlegs baby don’t listen to them, you’ll never be overhyped
also what do yall mean this wasn’t scary 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 im writing this in the parking lot and still flinching every time i see someone in one of my mirrors. a horror movie hasn’t made me feel this way in like a decade
wowowowow i just think this was an exquisitely crafted movie!! i don’t scare easily but i was gripping my friend’s hand and tense for the entire first and second acts. this is an atmosphere heavy movie that places you in the fear and hyper vigilance of the main character lee harker, played by maika monroe. who is a star!!
the sound design and score build up the uneasiness, and the camera work uses a dual focus on the characters and background that has you second guessing every detail. the pacing really worked for me, there was a rhythmic catch and release of tension that had me almost wishing for a jumpscare so i could tell myself i wasn’t being paranoid
i really enjoyed that even as the motivations and backstories unfurl, the tone of the movie stays situated as a crime thriller. i love the dark, sinister feeling this lent to scenes that could have felt campy in another movie in a different director’s hands -
- speaking of!!! nicolas cage loml, acted his ass off. i really love that they let him be a big freak and didn’t play it for laughs. like 5% of my hind brain wanted to laugh bc i love commitment!!! and he committed it was so amazing!! but the other 95% wanted to pee a little.
again really really, the camera work and sound design and the directing came together really beautifully here to make this movie good. the script is compelling but this movie would not be the same or anywhere as good in a different director’s hands, i’m so happy that oz perkins was able to both write and direct.
