"Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?"
I was feeling much too optimistic about life and what it had to offer, so to cheer myself down, I watched The Witch. And I'm very happy, uh, I mean ,distraught, to report that it worked splendidly.
Advertised as a New Englands Folktale, The Witch is vile, sickening to its very core like a rotten apple, and an engrossing way to spend an hour and 30 minutes. It's a flash of light shined by Robert Eggers that illuminates the dark recesses of humanity, and lingers ever too longingly, giving us a film designed to feel evil and satanic.
It's also surprisingly cohesive, given the genre and the old dialect. Further thoughts include the fact that Black Phillip deserves to be the GOAT, and Katherine, the mother, should've been named Karen. Cause she's a lil... mean.
