Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is the so awaited sequel for the classic Tim Burton film, with the return of Michael Keaton with his flaming interpretation of the charismatic ghost and Winona Ryder that does a pretty decent performance.
I’m gonna be honest, this film feels so 2020fied, it has jokes, locations, props and a cast that you literally know the studio wanted to make this for a wider range of audience that wasn’t really necessary. Tim Burton has a style that everyone loves, he could’ve made a movie with 100% his own essence and still this would’ve been amazing.
Beetlejuice as a character and his whole mythology is incredible, it has that same essence that Keaton and Burton gave him, plus the great practical effects that look amazing. However, the amount of subplots that take off screen time for Beetlejuice is honestly tiring.
We’ve got Delores chasing Juice, that is solved in a single scene. Then we got Willem Dafoe that is honestly really forgettable and could’ve been taken out. Then, Astrid’s dead father which is shown for a couple minutes and then everything’s is solved. Add all of that an annoying character like the man who wants to marry Lydia that I forgot his ending. And finally, we got the kid who scammed Astrid that I honestly ALSO forgot about how he ended up losing.
It is enjoyable, it has amazing characters and amazing music and the Burton style is honestly kinda forced but still a good watch.
