I am honestly shocked that this film hasn't received a lot of recognition from the major award ceremonies. Even though the dialogue gets somewhat incomprehensible at times, it's been a while since I've seen such a grandiose, brutal, profound, electrifying journey, with a cinematography that truly takes your breath away. As expected, Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard are brilliant here and I must say the performances are some of their best work without a doubt! Heck, kudos to all the cast and I admire how much effort they put into their roles as I definitely got transported to the middle of the XI century. The score helps creating a constantly unnerving and enigmatic atmosphere, also making the battle sequences so much more gripping! This is one of those rare unflinching movies that truly demands your attention from beginning to end!
Returning to the point I made about the dialogue...It could certainly be an issue for some folks since they use an archaic form of English and you might have a tough time following everything that's being said. However, having watched it with subtitles in the movie theater made the whole experience incredibly fulfilling as I was able to appreciate how complex, deep and thought-provoking the dialogue was here. Macbeth is a flawless movie on a technical level, the performances are really memorable and it has a very absorbing story about greed, pride, power and how all that can quickly poison the humanity and sanity of an individual. Highly recommended!!
