A very slow burn in the beginning (is that a pun? Idk). Everything leading up to the detonation scene was nice, and then the most intense scene in the history of cinema played, and it was magnificent. You truly could feel the power of the nuclear detonation, and it was beautiful. Post detonation (about the remaining half of the film) was some of the most intense courtroom drama ever brought to screen.
Nolan knows how to work the audience well. While we as the modern audience might already know the future consequences of Oppenheimers work, Nolan still manages to deliver an ending that leaves audiences feeling unknowing. The intensity of the latter half of the film should be studied in all film courses. Nolan is a master at his craft.
