So, this is something I've been waiting for a long time. I was incredibly anxious. The first film is one of my childhood favorites. I tried to avoid speculations and spoilers because I wanted to be surprised, for better or for worse. The only thing I knew was that Jenna Ortega would be part of the cast.
The visual quality was maintained: the makeup, costumes, lighting, colors, locations, the presence of music, secondary characters, and the mix of '80s aesthetics with contemporary elements—all of it is as immersive as in the first film. However, I wasn’t a fan of Lydia's bangs. I’m so grateful the original Beetlejuice actor is back; I’d have been disappointed if another actor had been chosen. Catherine O’Hara and Winona Ryder gave spectacular performances once again. I like that Tim Burton managed to tell another great story within a sequel.
Each scene is perfectly executed, from the feeling that Lydia's fiancé is a gigolo in the opening scene to revealing Beetlejuice's past—a topic not explored in the first film. The plot is well-written and remains faithful to the original throughout. The introduction of new characters is excellent. At first, I thought Jenna's character might be similar to Wednesday, but she delivered a perfect portrayal of a teenager filled with anger, complexity, rebellion, and ultimately, redemption. I also enjoyed Beetlejuice's ex-wife, especially her makeup and costume.
Finally, the ambiguous ending was a fantastic choice. Could it hint at another sequel?
