Hey guys little post because I’m sure everyone (no one) cares !
I’m in grade twelve, so my last year of high school, which means applying for universities. I’ve been interested in going into the film industry for a while, so decided on applying to a couple different programs for it around Toronto, where I am. The one that I wanted most, Toronto Metropolitan University, was considered one of the top 15 global film schools in 2023, and has everything that I want in the program
Supplementary applications were due February 1st, so right around exam season for my first semester, meaning I was super busy. TMU’s supplementary applications included a written component, as well as a short film component. The written one didn’t take me too long, but the short film was a hassle. Between studying for exams, finishing final projects, and making the short film, I was stretched incredibly thin. I managed to finish everything with only a few days to spare before the deadline, and submitted it all
Part of the written component asked us to write about a movie we felt has most impacted us, and I immediately went to The Perks of Being a Wallflower. People that know me personally would know how much it has changed my life, so I’m glad I got to ramble on about it
I wasn’t too confident in the short film I submitted. It was completely no budget, filmed in my home office, and edited on CapCut my phone. It’s definitely not the best short film you’ll see, but it was something. I’m happy to say that according to TMU’s admissions community, it was enough
I got my acceptance letter a few days ago, which was a huge weight taken off my shoulders. I’m proud of myself, and just felt like sharing :)
