Trap is something close to a debacle, a film that takes an intriguing premise of a manhunt for a serial killer in the midst of a pop concert (which honestly feels like the director doing his daughter a solid by casting her as the next Olivia Rodrigo) and somehow manages to squeeze not an ounce of suspense, thrill, or even discomfort out of it. The contrivances are absurd and even though there is one genuinely surprising twist in a sea of non-twists, it still doesn’t feel earned. And yet, the film is entertaining, largely due to Josh Hartnett’s great sicko mode performance, leaning into the film’s unintentional silliness while still conveying menace.
