Horizon harkens back to sprawling 90s epics, with handsome staging and direction that unfortunately doesn’t serve any of the characters or stories that Kevin Costner wants us to care about for three more (presumably) three-hour films. The most interesting character in the film not played by Kevin Costner (who honestly feels like a less engaging version of John Dutton from Yellowstone) is killed within the second hour. I hesitate to call Horizon self-indulgent because clearly a lot of care and craft went into this film, but…yeah, there isn’t much there there for me.
