I’ve attempted to finish this movie several times over the last few months when it’s been on TV and have been unsuccessful due to falling asleep or simply procrastinating and not focusing on it anymore- until tonight!
Shane Black’s crime comedy was an enjoyable watch from start to finish, and that is mainly down to casting and the clear chemistry between leads Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, who were great in their respective roles as private investigators on their case; Angourie Rice had a standout performance too, she was a great side character, playing Gosling’s young daughter- this obviously prior to her roles in Spider-Man:Homecoming/Far From Home- I would love to see her in more!
The party scene was a great watch, and the overall 1970s LA setting was entertaining, with the costumes, sets, cars and overall feel a very good portrayal of LA at that time, from what I can tell! I could definitely see the similarities between Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood- both having two male leads, set in 1970s LA, and featuring Margaret Qualley!
