All you mfers saying “it’s not that scary” are fuckin wild. I think this is one of the best horror films of the decade by an absolute mile, and it’s most certainly one of the best of the entire century. I’ve never ever felt so uneasy watching a film, and yet I couldn’t bring myself to look away for a single second. Everything is so incredibly well realised. The atmosphere had my heart racing the second it began. So much dread. So much fuckin dread. It’s so brutally unsettling. The performances from Maika Monroe and Nic Cage are easily the best I’ve seen all year. The marketing strategy from Neon to hide Cage’s face throughout all trailers and promotion material made his eventual reveal hit so much harder. He really is one of the most interesting actors of all time btw. Longlegs is a real pummelling of the nerves, like no other. It really screwed me up, I can’t lie. The cinematography and use of blocking is so suffocatingly effective. The sound design like a constant bludgeon to the nose. There’s just so much creative freedom swirling around. It may not work for everyone, but it REALLY did for me.
