This has to be one of the most intense and anxiety inducing films ever made. I remember the first time I watched this my heart was pumping so fast throughout the end of it and every time I’ve watched it again it’s still the same. This is incredible. Now if you haven’t seen this you may be thinking how is a movie about a jazz drummer intense and anxiety inducing? Trust me you have to watch this to see how. J.K Simmons is phenomenal in this, truly a masterful performance, genuinely amazing. His character is a asshole throughout the entire film but it’s clear he has some good in him and simply is trying to make the next great jazz musician. Miles Teller is also good in this too and as someone who isn’t a big fan of his work, I think he is actually really solid and really plays his part well, his character though is a bit of a dick. The supporting cast is also great. Some really nice shots in this too, nothing too over the top or anything grand but really solid and complimentary. The writing is terrific, you can really tell Damien Chazelle put so much thought and effort into this aspect, especially with J.K Simmons character, every time he berates someone it is so detailed and brutal, truly terrific writing. If you haven’t seen this definitely do.
