i know i’m me and so like every other film i watch gets 5 stars (liking things is fun!) but i truly wish i could give this 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 stars. the script and the performances and the cinematography just do not get better than this. christoph waltz gives you chills with ease. mélanie laurent embodies shosanna, she makes you feel how hot her anger burns and how badly she wants to rip every nazi’s balls off, rightfully so. brad pitt is great. eli roth and diane kruger, daniel brühl, mike myers and michael fassbender also carry this nicely. this entire cast is stacked. knowing that shosanna was originally intended to more closely resemble the bride’s character from kill bill makes me grieve what could’ve been, but both women already serve cunt as they do so i can’t complain too much.
the script is perfect to me. the opening scene in particular i could watch for hours on loop, it’s just too fucking good. that scene alone justifies all the awards this was nominated for and won, and i think it deserved more. it’s so good i don’t want to watch it too too much so it stays being like the first time watching it. it’s a ride from beginning to end.
to me this is tarantino’s magnum opus. i’m sure everyone who says that says it about a different movie of his. he has many amazing, iconic movies but to me this is as good as it gets and i wish so bad i could actually rewatch it for the first time. it’s just so perfect. i love it so much.
