an art within art, and to say this still feels like an understatement. i am in awe and i am in love.
a cinematic experience, lady snowblood portrays both the stark contrast and similarities of red and white: red for an angry mother, a passion for vengeance, and a hunger for violence; and white for an innocent child, an indifference to suffering, and a hope for justice. even yuki kashima (lady snowblood) of calm angelic beauty but with murderous devilish eyes, walking in small graceful steps in a blood-splattered white kimono builds a striking yet fitting image with the dark and mundane atmosphere of her murdered foes and warriors. bright red blood on fresh white snow has never been this riveting. if anything, this film is a poetic masterpiece.
easily already one of my all-time favorite films. wow.
