If this film doesn't end up winning Best Animated Feature at the Oscars, there is something seriously wrong with the Academy. Hell, it should even get a Best Picture nom. Into the Spider-Verse has a unique visual style that is stunningly detailed and beautifully animated. The TV spots and trailers don't do it justice. It was nothing short of amazing. I felt like my eyes were about to start bleeding at times. The story was great and stayed true to the Spider-Man mythos. All of the characters were awesome and Miles is a great protagonist. The humor also worked and the film took its time when it came to serious moments. The voice acting was superb, and I gotta give it to John Mulaney, Nicolas Cage, Hailee Steinfeld and Shameik Moore for being the best on-screen representations of their respective Spider-people; it isn't gonna get any better than their portrayals. While they're technically the same character, Chris Pine and Jake Johnson both made it unique and believable enough for their representations of Spider-Man himself. Also, Liev Schreiber was an AWESOME Kingpin, and Mahershala Ali is the friggin' champ. The music was fantastic, and props to Chris Pine for recording a Christmas album. The easter eggs and cameos were all really good and long-time web-heads can spot them without a doubt. The tribute to Stan Lee and Steve Ditko at the end was beautiful and meaningful. Plus, the post-credits scene...I can't even describe how amazing it was. If I had any complaint, I'd say that besides the meaningful quotes/one-liners here and there, the group that consists of Spider-Gwen, Noir, SP//dr and Spider-Ham largely take a backseat in terms of supporting roles. Other than that, I really can't think of anything else wrong with it.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is hands down the best Spider-Man film since 2004. Whether or not it's better than Spider-Man 2 is debatable, but it's definitely up there. If you like Spider-Man, or Marvel, or just appreciate superheroes in general, definitely go see this, because it's too unique to be missed on the big screen. I can't recommend it enough; I loved the hell out of this movie and I cannot wait to see it again.
