Sing Sing feels so special. It feels like it has the elements of your average emotional indie movie but with the emotional manipulation at a 0 and the genuineness at an 11. Part of this is due to the fact that this is a real story but a lot of it is due to the dedication to telling that story truthfully, including the majority of the actors playing themselves.
Colman Domingo is one of the finest actors working today, he understands the instrument that is his voice more than most actors…on top of that he has the ability to make a face that makes me burst into tears.
Clarence Maclin shines, he is so complex and a joy to watch in this. Every actor in this apart from those two blew me away for how small of a role you would think they have they all enter your hearts before the credits roll. What an ensemble.
This movie will move anyone but if you at all feel like your life has been deepened by art or the making of art you will see yourself in these men. I love movies.
PS while I was writing this Colman Domingo liked my Sing Sing tweet. No fucking way man.
