Genuinely feel changed after this. Was not on my radar at all until I read a rave review and found out Sarah Snook was the lead, even then I knew really nothing about it other than that it was a tear-jerker but man, some of the most emotionally invested I’ve felt in a theater this year. Also definitely did not know it was Rated R so that was real interesting to discover as it went on
Snook’s voice performance is so good, she has such an ability to make me cry seemingly effortlessly. Put her in everything. The animation is so unique, not just the stop-motion of it all but the way it’s lit and the way it moves feels very immediately iconic to me. I won’t overshare so that everyone can be as surprised by this as I was but I had tears well up for about half of this, one of my favorites of the year. Animation is having a really good year
