Started really great. Ended really great. I liked the middle, it just didn’t hit me as hard as the rest did. It felt uneventful, not boring just uneventful. The script isn’t rocky in any noticeable ways, it’s just probably the only real thing holding it back from being better because everything else is just so good.
Cooper really has upped his game like everyone said, his directing in this is masterful, he’s the real deal. The performances from the leads are equally stunning.
The first and last 30 mins really shine. One sequence of him conducting is so breathtaking it’s insane. Such a masterful sequence from Cooper. Carey Mulligan is great but in the way that she always is, I don’t really see the campaign calling her a front runner or at least I don’t think she does anything more impressive than Gladstone, Huller or what I expect Emma Stone to do in Poor Things. Definitely expect her to get nominated and will be happy to see it. Cooper is fantastic, I’m partial to Cillian and always will be but I’m happy he’s getting so much attention for his performance and directing of this, he deserves it.
