jaume really is just one of the best doing it right now as he continuously hits that sweet spot of the bottle thriller, ensnaring you for about 2 hours in a vice before letting you go. as is the case for other entries in his filmography, the speed and ease of tech logistics compliment the pacing usually in a way to show how overwhelmed the protagonist is within the situation who then has to make quick decisions sometimes at the detriment of bystanders. these movies are all about the immediacy and how within such peril characters’ inner lives are able to bubble to the surface. in usual fashion too, he gets great performances particularly bateman here as the villain of the piece who comes across as disinterested in the greater ramifications of what he’s doing, but also dangerous enough because there is some kind of personal motivation at hand. always registers to me that directors sometimes forget what a presence he has or how he calibrates his voice.
as with the best of single location potboilers, it comes down to a series of tricky choices that test ethics and spontaneity of the person trapped with the opposing forces planning a step ahead of them. i don’t give a damn about any of the real world sensibilities that an actual TSA officer might try to pick out here, you’re in this for the ride! and since it’s the holiday season you deserve to treat your retinas well with this instead of the other brainrot on the streaming platforms.
