I’m totally onboard with remaking every horror film ever and casting Lupita Nyong'o as the lead !!
After coming out of an imax viewing, I was totally blown away with how they made this film, differentiating its plot and pacing from the other ones. It’s almost like Nyongos movie and there just happens to be some monsters that come in every once in a while to do silly things (kill people violently). I was also completely ok with the fact that this isn’t a film in this universe that explains anything, shows how everything really came about, it’s almost like ‘12 Cloverfield Lane’… it just exists in the universe when it doesn’t have too, but man I’m glad it does.
Lupita absolutely crushes this role, with Quinn and Wolff being great as well. I swear Quinn and Lupita would win a ‘cry on command’ contest if there was ever a thing. What babies amiright…
The one thing I did want to mention is the cat Frodo. I get it, the cats a service cat so it should be smart, tactical and stealthy. But when the hell did they start training cats in the navy seals ??? It’s also trained to be bound to Lupita, and I don’t know if she just smells bad or what, but that boy really does run away a lot. Then ya know, just comes back when he wants. Very unrealistic but who cares, it’s a fictional movie. I would like to see a film revolving Frodo the cat and that dog from ‘Anatomy Of A Fall’ though.
As mentioned, this film didn’t have to exist but I’m sure glad it does. It doesn’t answer any questions, it just tells a semi love story about life in this chaotic, alien ridden universe.
