Damien Chazelle legitimately has a case for having the 2 best closing 25 minutes of any movie ever. I was in absolute awe, may have even shed a few tears. Such a beautiful movie, they surprisingly pulled off the old movie look really well. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling obviously give gargantuan efforts here, swap them with anyone else who knows what this would’ve been. Every single line they said felt real, and you could really get behind either of them. I really don’t know whether or not I should like the whole “the dream is becoming realistic” idea that is kinda the main focus of the movie. At some times they tried a little too hard (opening number at the beginning cough cough), but I can understand the thought behind it, just not the execution at times. However, once it started to kick in, it really kicked in. That observatory scene, holy shit. Like Whiplash, there were many times during this where I just couldn’t believe what what I was seeing. Way better than I remember it being, Chazelle might have the Midas touch.
