I watched the television version over two weeks which I believe was detrimental to my viewing experience. Bergman strips back any fancy camerawork or visual flare and focuses on the fantastic and profound dialogue. Both performances are phenomenal, obviously. Also I really loved their relationship and I was impacted when they slowly broke-down and I was like where is this going. But then it really is just scenes from a marriage, it’s not a continuous stories, it takes certain points throughout the later half of their marriage to explore love and tolerance. Also I would suggest watching the series for Bergmans commentary on the recaps of the episodes and reading the credits out loud and it’s the most unique thing I’ve heard and also the pretty images of Faro are cute. Next time I watch it I’ll check out the film version and I think I would enjoy it more. But it’s a fantastic exploration of relationships with a length and depth unmatched in like marriage story, only comparable so far to like the Before trilogy with the jump in time and length of conversations.
If I ranked the episodes it would go. Three; One; Five; Four; Six and then Two (cos honestly I don’t remember two)
