I think this is the first time I’ve seen a man wash his ass on screen. Kudos. I was really excited for a queer horror film but this was not it for me. This movie was so weird… in a bad way. It felt overly long and I honestly think it would’ve worked better as a drama and would’ve been scarier that way. The horror elements are cheap and the movie relies heavily on shocking the viewer which is a bit distasteful as this is a mental health centered story. There were bits and scenes in this that I liked but they didn’t come together to create a compelling narrative or visual experience. At least the movie had some cute gay moments in it. (not counting the random sex scene followed by triggering self harm shots!!!) Maybe that’s why I’m so bummed out about this movie because it had great representation which I really really want to see more of in horror but not much else going for it. The horror elements felt flat in the end nor was there anything else intriguing enough about Hypochondriac that would make me recommend this movie.
