The Stephouse is one of the large buildings that can be constructed by the player. It requires the Large Building Shells research to build. It is the only structure costing 30 Building Materials and falls between numerous buildings in cost, meaning it has no direct comparisons or counterparts. Below are listed its neighbors in comparison:
At 24 Building Materials is the Longhouse which yields a narrower and modestly smaller total floor-space. Both of them have elevated segments on their roof-areas that allow for considerable height advantages when using Mounted Crossbows and other defensive weaponry. It is recommended to build both structures with the backs or elevated platforms pointed in the direction of potential encroaching foes.
It is considerably large in size, being roughly equal to the 35 Building Material Y-House in total useable floor-space, due to the Y-House's obstructive central roof-dome.
The L-House at 35 Building Material is slightly more expensive and smaller, but has a straighter and unobstructed second floor, making construction on it logistically easier than the segmented second floor of the Stephouse.
The Stephouse is considerably larger than the more expensive Bughouse at 35 Building Material, which is known to have logistical issues with defensive emplacements on its roof near the dome and thus leaves a portion of the structure indefensible.
Its second segmented roof section is taller than all other structures with an open roof save for the Watchtower, which is more than twice as expensive at a 60 Building Materials and 10 Iron Plates.
Like the L-House, its ceiling and roof are separated into two parts. The two levels of the ceiling are connected by a ladder. Lights placed on the higher ceiling of this building will not illuminate the floor directly under them, forcing the player to use either torches or ground based lamps for lighting.
