Hakaluki Haor has been assumed to take the attention in recent years because of its ecological significance in terms of flood control, aquatic productivity, and micro-climatic regulation etc. Hakaluki Haor once had plenty of wildlife and aquatic resources and has been covered with swamp forest, which in the recent time has become a fast-degraded landscape facing increased pressure and threats. The countries that use English as a foreign language need effective activities which propel stude... more The countries that use English as a foreign language need effective activities which propel students to practice skills of the language properly inside as well as outside classrooms. Debating is a practice that inspires learners to open their mouth, get into discussion, defend their own positions, place counter arguments and also conduct research on related issues. While debating in English, the debaters get involved into a challenging and thrilling activity; moreover, they find themselves well-conversant in the aforesaid language. This paper presents the rationale behind using debate in EFL classes and proposes a few modules of debating which, if practiced properly, will make students confident users of English language in academic, social and professional settings. The paper also examines utilities of the modules and exhibits how students while practicing debate can improve their English language as well as presentation skills. The modules can be practiced in EFL classes, English language centers, debating clubs or other formal and informal settings where teaching-learning of English language is concerned.

Liposomal flucytosine capped with gold nanoparticle formulations for improved ocular delivery

In this study, liposomes were used as an ocular carrier for nanogold capped with flucytosine antifungal drug. Gold nanoparticles were used as a contrasting agent that provides tracking of the drug to the posterior segment of the eye for treating fungal intraocular endophthalmitis. The nanoliposomes were prepared with varying molar ratios of lecithin, cholesterol, Span 60, a positive charge inducer (stearylamine), and a negative charge inducer (dicetyl phosphate). Formulation F6 (phosphatidylcholine, cholesterol, Span 60, and stearylamine at a molar ratio of 1:1:1:0.15) demonstrated the highest extent of drug released, which reached 7.043 mg/h. It had a zeta potential value of 42.5±2.12 mV and an average particle size approaching 135.1±12.0 nm. The ocular penetration of the selected nanoliposomes was evaluated in vivo using a computed tomography imaging technique. It was found that F6 had both the highest intraocular penetration depth (10.22±0.11 mm) as measured by the computed tomography and the highest antifungal efficacy when evaluated in vivo using 32 infected rabbits&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;#39; eyes. The results showed a strong correlation between the average intraocular penetration of the nanoparticles capped with flucytosine and the percentage of the eyes healed. After 4 weeks, all the infected eyes (n=8) were significantly healed (P&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;0.01) when treated with liposomal formulation F6. Overall, the nanoliposomes encapsulating flucytosine have been proven efficient in treating the infected rabbits&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;#39; eyes, which proves the efficiency of the nanoliposomes in delivering both the drug and the contrasting agent to the posterior segment of the eye.

Targeting brain cells with glutathione-modulated nanoliposomes: in vitro and in vivo study

Therefore, glutathione-modulated nanoliposomes have been engineered to enhance the targeting of flucytosine to the brain. Glutathione-modulated nanoliposomes were prepared by thin-film hydration technique and evaluated in the primary brain cells of rats. Lecithin, cholesterol, and span 65 were mixed at 1:1:1 molar ratio. The molar percentage of PEGylated glutathione varied from 0 mol% to 0.75 mol%. The cellular binding and the uptake of the targeted liposomes were both monitored by epifluorescent microscope and flow cytometry techniques. A biodistribution and a pharmacokinetic study of flucytosine and flucytosine-loaded glutathione-modulated liposomes was carried out to evaluate the in vivo brain-targeting efficiency. The size of glutathione-modulated nanoliposomes was &amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;100 nm and the zeta potential was more than -65 mV. The cumulative release reached 70% for certain formulations. The cellular uptake increased as molar percent of glutathione increased to reach the maximum at 0.75 mol%. The uptake of the targeted liposomes by brain cells of the rats was three times greater than that of the nontargeted liposomes. An in vivo study showed that the relative efficiency was 2.632±0.089 and the concentration efficiency was 1.590±0.049, and also, the drug-targeting index was 3.670±0.824. Overall, these results revealed that glutathione-PEGylated nanoliposomes enhance the effective delivery of flucytosine to brain and could become a promising new therapeutic option for the treatment of the brain infections.

Advances in sensor node hardware, which comprises sensors, embedded processors, and communication... more Advances in sensor node hardware, which comprises sensors, embedded processors, and communication components, have made the large-scale deployment of sensor networks a reality. Various sensor network applications ranging from monitoring applications to military applications require sensor nodes to collect data over a continuous time period. The placement, management, and processing of sensor network data necessitates an effective data storage, management, and query processing policy. This paper attempts to identify the key query processing techniques used in sensor networks. Design goals and challenges for query processing techniques are identified. The techniques are evaluated in terms of efficiency, scalability, applicability, and reliability. The evaluation of the techniques is guided by the distinctive query processing features supported by both types of sensor networks: conventional and wide area. Moreover, we argued for the integration of conventional and wide area sensor networks and addressed the integration issues and design goals. In particular, a query processing architecture is proposed to meet the emerging needs of sensor networks. The architecture addressed the requirements for different layers of the integrated sensor network components: base stations, sensor nodes and wide area workstations. Additionally, the future research directions for query processing are outlined.

Sensors can be spread throughout a region to build a network for many applications such as environmental observations, habitat monitoring, protecting a region from intruders, military applications and so on. Sensor networks have become a very active topic of research due to its emerging importance in many personal, home, industry, agriculture, and medical applications. This report demonstrates a wide survey of sensor networks research. The report identifies the research areas of sensor networks, presents the past researches in these areas also draws some conclusions about future and further research directions.

Determination of the Thickness of a Resistive Material Layer in a Finite Volume Conductor using Focused Impedance Method (FIM) – a simulation study

Focused Impedance Method (FIM) is an innovative and relatively new electrical impedance measureme... more Focused Impedance Method (FIM) is an innovative and relatively new electrical impedance measurement technique that allows localized measurement of the properties of electrically conducting materials in a volume conductor such as the human body using simple measurement setups. In a previous work, FIM, with dual electrode separation, was used to determine thicknesses of subcutaneous fat layers through experimental study on phantoms and human subjects. The present work, carried out using COMSOL Multiphysics software package, is a finite element simulation study for a similar target object that verifies and extends the results of the previous experimental work. A rectangular box of different heights containing a material of uniform conductivity such as saline together with internally embedded layers of resistive materials of different thicknesses were used for this study. The measured transfer impedance in the FIM method showed marked change with the variation of the thickness of the resistive layer and with electrode separation, showing a point of maximum curvature in the latter. We obtained a calibration curve for the thickness from the electrode separation of this point. This allowed a unique method for the determination of thickness of embedded resistive layers which is more general than what had been done in the previous experimental work. This work will help standardize the application of 4-electrode FIM for determination of the thickness of less-conducting material layer in any finite volume, including determination of fat layer thickness, etc.
