excellent stuff! really nice use of the domino tool, it’s so clever…
one thing worth pointing out: the text cuts out on a few of the cards, making it impossible to read the end of certain sentences. i would recommend tweaking the CSS to either making the font size just a little bit smaller, or making the cards fit the height of the text columns (or both).
very sharp style of writing and also genuinely funny, which is always a plus.
such an interesting examination of sports in the general cultural consciousness (specifically american here but i think it applies to other cultures too more or less) and then the performance… gender, gender roles and gender dynamics as performance, liking sports as performance, clichés and their inversions…
i think this is one of my favourite interpretations of the theme!
an early experimental version is now available here 🤫 https://isyourguy.itch.io/inkrunner-pe
Finally getting around to sitting down and writing a little something after playing this in full—I played it like, a day before the QoL update lmao, will have to give it another go—it’s fantastic work.
The writing in this manages to pull off a sensible mix of melancholy in a desolate setting while also being genuinely funny, which is an absolute treat.
The presentation is perfect, the camera angles, the clever little details in the UI down to how the portraits stack on top of each other, hell even the sepia tones just work so well, it’s so good.
The latter half absolutely drips with really, really fun and interesting situations, characters and implied worldbuilding. It just rocks.
Found myself wanting more when I reached the end, which is the sign of a really good game in book!
Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
the way this game captures the very specific feelings about moving and being in an empty house and also being a little kid being left alone for maybe 10 minutes with the knowledge that your parents are coming back soon is so well done lol, i found myself playing it twice and doing very different things each time (although it may have to do with me discovering the concept of running and how to do a knee-slide the second time around). such a grounding and relaxing experience. you made a good game duncan!
