Good job.

First I can talk about the visuals, and audio. The game is very cute, and i love the little animations on the people. The music also fits really well with the game (albeit a little repetitive, but its a jam game, so i totally get it). Overall the game looks and feels amazing. I get the feeling that we're kind of "playing with toy soldiers" more than commanding armies in an RTS, and I think you should totally lean into that, maybe with a tilt shift effect on the camera to really make everything look tiny, like miniatures.

The gameplay and mechanics work really well for a cute little jam game. I think you did great! But if I were to come back and play this again, I think it would need some balance tweaks, and some UX improvements. First off, Lord Redwood wasnt much of a threat once you got a tiny little economy going. It might be a little hard to balance the AI, but he only seemed to attack when I attacked him, and he did so pretty infrequently. Also I'm not sure if the game mechanics were applied to the enemy settlements. They didnt seem to count up population over time. This made overwhelming the enemy a little easy once you got the idea of the game. Also I'm not sure what the idea of the neutral locations was about. I just kind of felt bad invading them :( Maybe some sort of recruitment mechanic in the future? Maybe utilizing gold to bribe/buy their loyalty to you? And allow Mr Redwood to do the same. And then allow full-on invasions to happen as well if you would like to take over the neutral townships the old-fashioned way!

UX-wise, just some very small things like, show the player their gold production per day somewhere, also notify the player when a township is full and is ready to "harvest" (ew, thats not a good word). Right now, houses/towns that are full, light up blue, just like any other production facility. But they should show up a little bit different when full because while production locations need to be full for their effect to take place, houses and towns need to be NOT full, to serve their function. Another thing is that the player cannot select how many soldiers to move out. So if moving to a farm, and you click from a full house, 5 soldiers move out, but the max space of a farm is 1, so 4 soldiers just kind of disappear forever.

Some other things:
I liked that the maps are randomly generated every time.
I LOVED how simple the tutorial for the game was, once you did a thing, the game assumed that you knew how to do it, and it would stop prompting you. Very nice and out of the way.

Overall, I'm a big fan! :)

Developer

Thank you sooo much for the detailed feedback ! Lots of great ideas.

Wow, awesome idea, reminds me alot of the game "Castles" of the shitty mobile collection "2 Player games free". If you don´t already know it, check it out, because i was looking for a good version of it for a long time. And here i have it! For some feedback tho:

1. I unfortanetly don´t know how "attack" and "coins" work. Also i don´t know how to get more population. Maybe i´m just stupid, but make that more clear in the tutorial.

2. I liked the graphics, but maybe zoom out a bit more so that you have an overview.

3. Just polish it a bit more in general. I could DEFINETLY see this as a full game with several levels, or even better: A multiplayer RPG were you can select different characters and stuff. I would love that. Also, what is that font, i like it. :)

I hope the feedback helped you, would be nice if you could check out my submission too. :)

Developer

Thanks for the detailed feedback ! The font is Do Hyeon.

Coins are generated by mines and farms when they're full of villagers. Houses, inns and hamlets all use coins to produce villagers.

Towers give you an attack bonus when they're full. Each attack point gives you an advantage when attacking an enemy building.

You can zoom out with the scroll wheel :)

I know about the zooming, thanks!

This was an awesome concept would love to see a full game of this! Like a simplified version of Civ or a city builder, the feel to the growth in the game is really nice and the more you get the hang of it the more you have to worry about, really enjoyed it! Great work! :D

i love the minimalist art and the gameplay feels very rewarding, great job!

This is a fun game! I love the visuals for it because it has a very clean look. It'd be interesting to see this expanded on post jam maybe with more levels and maybe a more aggressive AI. Good job!

As soon as I figured out the strategy, I dominated the competition! Honestly would love to see more levels of this that really scale up the difficulty, but great job!

Got completely destroyed the first 3 times I tried to play this. However, after that point when I actually got into it, I became immediately addicted and had to physically stop myself from playing alllllll night.

Great game, would love to see it expanded further.

I thought it was quite easy... until the enemy tropes came to my first house! That was probably one of the most fun games I played from the jam though, very well done!

It feels like you were a few hours away from something amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed your concept! I would love to play again if you ever keep building it :)

Developer

I am at least planning to release a post jam version addressing the most glaring bugs and balancing issues !

Really enjoyed this! While it is a bit easy, I really wanted to just keep expanding, and kept playing until I owned almost everything on the map. Fun, decent graphics and a really nice soundtrack. Well done!

Love the concept. If only game didn't freeze when you lose, it would be amazing. Good job!

Really nice and clean! A ton of depth for 48 hours!!

Nice music too :)

Clever strategy game. there are some more things to fix but still feels good and fun.

Really cool and creative game! I find it really neat how such a simple mechanic lends itself to a rather complex whole

Submitted(+1)

Really nice ! The challenge is perfect and i directly want to beat all this red houses. Great mechanic, a litlle bit easy but in 48h it's amazing !

Really nice game, simple to play. This is an astounding work for a solo developer! Well done 👏

My only issue is that I ended up in a negative feedback loop where I didn't own enough houses to produce enough characters to get new house while defending against characters, but again it's an incredible work in only 48 hours!

Developer

True true, I'll work a bit more on the AI/balancing once the jam is done :)

How did you make this in 48hours. My god.

Developer(+1)

It's not my first jam, I'm getting used to it ^^ Thanks <3
