OX7GEN - Why So Demure?

In their “Five artists to check out in January” feature, Mixmag points to Mumbai's OX7GEN: "With a background as a drummer for metal and psychedelic rock bands, OX7GEN brings his high-octane, percussive prowess into dance music with his solo productions–dealing in trance-inducing club tracks that venture from electro into 140 BPM sounds, progressive house into bass." This cut came out on HE.SHE.THEY.

monde ufo - 119

Here's a slice of psychedelia from LA-based duo Monde UFO: "A rhythmic ripper that blends psych, jazz, and motorik prog into a perfect blur," writes Raven Sings The Blues. It's their latest single to appear ahead of Flamingo Tower, coming later this year via Fire Records.

Shabaka - Living (feat. Eska Mtungwazi)

Posted by 1 site • Also on: Spotify
We'll let Said The Gramophone wax poetic on the flute-driven British jazz musician Shabaka Hutchings' 2024 debut: "It's pure invention, a roaming dialectic, Dionysian but chaste, loving and insistent, moving not in harmony with Mtungwazi's voice, or even with Shabaka's pocket string-section, but almost in spite of it, like the bird's gone free and it's this freedom that matters most of all."

SoLaRfIvE - Overcome feat. Jazstarr

"SolarFive likes to float his voice across dark, brooding, melodic tunes with a rumbling, locomotive flow," says Chicago Reader. The rapper, producer, and engineer has collaborated with fellow Chicagoans Mick Jenkins (Stack №194), Defcee (Stack №400), and, just this week, released a new 17-track album featuring the latter, Jazstarr, and others.

Sun Angels - 777

Bandcamp shines a light on the Tokyo-based ambient trance label Mizuha 罔象, which has flourished since launching in 2021. Among the releases featured, this 2024 track from Sun Angels "begins with cascading water, dulcet harp chords, and meditative piano, laying out a vibrant, picturesque terrain before gradually building into heady, Ibiza-ready EBM."
FEATURED ALBUM

Ego Ella May - Winter Sun

Posted by 1 site • On Bandcamp • Also on: Spotify
On her new LP, FIELDNOTES: COMPLETE, South London's Ego Ella May (Stack №288) documents observations on life and love over jazz-leaning R&B and neo-soul songs.
GOOD MIX
The minds behind Mizuha 罔象 make the Taiwanese event series PURE G an ascendent trance mix designed to start precisely 72 minutes before sunrise.
GOOD READ

For Dazed, Alim Kheraj looks back on 2024, the year of the pop femininomenon:

"In the world of music at least, 2024 belonged to women reshaping and disrupting pop in their own flawed, complicated and beautiful image."

Thanks for listening!
