Emergency Courses
Building Assessment Team (BAT) Training (EHS-1650)
BAT training certifies you to be a part of the volunteer post earthquake assessment team. You will learn to conduct an external of a building looking for any of 8 specific signs of damage. Please check with your supervisor before registering.
General Safety, Injury Prevention (IIPP) and Emergency Preparedness (EHS-4200)
General Safety, IIPP, and Emergency Preparedness covers practices and procedures for preventing employee injury or illness from potential workplace hazards.
Health Courses
Automatic External Defibrillator (AED, First Aid and CPR) (EHS-1300)
The course trains employees in the use of an Automatic Defibrillator (AED) as a tool used in conjunction with CPR to help a victim of sudden cardiac arrest.
Back Care: Safe Lifting/Handling (EHS-1400)
Back Care is a hands-on course where attendees learn and practice techniques for safe lifting and carrying to prevent back injuries on the job.
Computer Workstation Ergonomics (EHS-3400)
Topics include work station set-up, body postures, healthy work habits and stretch exercises. Prevent problems that occur from daily computer use.
Laboratory Ergonomics (EHS-4800)
This course is for employees and students who perform repetitive tasks such as microscope use, pipetting, and miscellaneous hand tool use.
Stanford Wastewater Permit Compliance (CHEM-1000)
To comply with Stanford's wastewater discharge permit, this training will acknowledge receipt of training materials regarding Best Management Practices (BMP's) for waste disposal on campus.
Working Safely Near Radioactive Materials (EHS-5275)
This course explains how to work safely near others who are using radioactive materials.
Safety Courses
Biological Safety (EHS-1500)
Biosafety covers the safe use, handling and disposal of biohazardous agents, and reviews emergency procedures for occupational injuries or biological material spills.
Bloodborne Pathogens (EHS-PROG-1600)
SU employees with the potential for workplace exposure to bloodborne pathogens environment must by law receive special training. This program provides methods of protecting yourself from potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens in your workplace.
Chemical Safety for Laboratories (EHS-1900)
This course covers Stanford's Chemical Hygiene Program for safe handling of chemicals and chemical waste in the lab. It provides resources for assessing and controlling hazards, complying with applicable laws and regulations.
Compressed Gas Safety (EHS-2200)
Compressed gas safety covers the general safety procedures for the proper use, storage and handling of compressed gases.
DOT: Shipping Biological Goods or Dry Ice (EHS-PROG-2700)
Shipping Dangerous Biological Goods/Dry Ice trains employees to properly package, label, and document shipments of hazardous biological materials or dry ice for transportation by common carriers. Course provides initial certification.
Fire Extinguisher Use (EHS-3700)
Fire Extinguisher Use gives hands-on experience using a portable fire extinguisher. Learn about the types of fire extinguishers and how to use them; general fire safety topics will also be covered.
Fire Safety in Kitchens (EHS-3900)
This course is for employees who work in one of the various kitchens on campus. The class has two parts; a lecture presented in the kitchen and then a hands-on experience using a portable fire extinguisher. First Aid for burns is covered.

Hazard Communication (EHS-4300)
Hazard Communication covers basic chemical safety information, personal protection equipment (PPE), and the rights & duties of employees working with or around hazardous chemicals in non-laboratory settings.
Hazardous Materials Response Cleanup Labs/Shops (EHS-4400)
This course provides methods and personal protection needs for cleaning up small spills. To request training please contact Nick Pak.
Portable Ladder Safety for Researchers (EHS-4830)
For employees or students who will be using a portable ladder in a lab. Covers four types of common portable ladders: step ladders, single and extension ladders, mobile ladder platforms, and articulated ladders. Duration: ~1 hour.
Radiation Safety Training (EHS-5250)
This course is restricted until prior authorization has been given from Health Physics. Topics include: intro to the science of ionizing radiation, fundamentals of measurement, bioeffects, regulations and good work practice. EHS-5251 must then be taken.
Radiation Safety Hands-On Training (EHS-5251)
