A New Spot for Portuguese Peri Peri Chicken is Open in Sugar Land

Porto’s Peri Peri hails from Chicago

A Chicago export dedicated to flame-grilled chicken called Porto’s Peri Peri just debuted in Sugar Land.

The chicken-centric spot is located at 2625 Town Center Boulevard, becoming the first Houston-area outpost behind one location in the Dallas area and seven locations in Chicago. Porto’s serves up vegetarian-fed, halal-certified chicken either stuffed into wraps and sandwiches or plated with sides like cole slaw, corn on the cob, hummus, and cassava fries. Vegetarian options abound, including rice bowls, pitas, and wraps filled with paneer cheese or falafel, plus veggie patties that can be served up in a number of ways.

The peri peri chicken trend continues to gain momentum in Houston. The Peri Peri Factory opened on Westheimer in April, plus Peli Peli Kitchen’s has put more of an emphasis on peri peri chicken on its menu. Then there’s Chick’n Cone, an import from NYC that debuted its fried yardbird with peri peri sauce in the Woodlands in August.

In November, Porto’s founder Syed Pasha told Eater that three more Houston-area Porto’s will follow; most likely in The Woodlands, the Bay Area, and a spot on Westheimer Road — maybe to compete with Peri Peri Factory.

Porto’s Peri Peri operates Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
