Whitewood (Atalaya hemiglauca) is a drought tolerant tree native to Australia. In 1953, there was an experiment conducted on nine horses who were given dried leaves and fruit from this tree in their daily diet. The leaves were non-toxic, but the fruits are toxic. When horses consumed 6 oz of the fruit daily, they died within 3 days. A total of 1 lb. 2 oz of the dried fruit had been consumed.
