Mountain pomegranate (Catunaregam spinosa, also referred to as Randia spinosa) is a deciduous shrub or small tree which is a member of the Rubiaceae family. It is native to Africa and Asia. The tree contains sharp, woody spines along it's branches. It develops white to yellow, slightly scented flowers in 1-3 flowered clusters and broadly ellipsoid fruits.

The sharp spines along the branches are capable of causes physical injury to horses, and should not be in pastures or along fence lines.
